Terms and Conditions

These terms govern the reading and use of the Matrix Distribution Math Reference. By consulting the reference, a reader accepts them as they stand.

Acceptance

A reader who continues past this page is taken to accept these terms. A reader who does not accept them is at liberty to close the reference, and no obligation is created on either side by the mere act of reading.

The nature of what is offered

The reference is a body of academic and expository writing. It states definitions and relations drawn from the literature of mathematical statistics and of wave form modelling. It offers no guidance for any particular person, institution or undertaking, and it creates no relationship between the reader and the desk beyond that of reader and author.

Permitted use

An essay may be read, quoted in short compass with an acknowledgement, and used in teaching, provided the sense is not altered. Whole essays are not to be reproduced without the leave of the desk. A request for such leave is made to the Compendium Office.

Accuracy and its limits

The desk prepares the text with care and checks it against the primary literature. Even so, the reference is offered as it stands, and the desk does not warrant that it is without error or that it suits any particular end. A reader who relies on a result should satisfy themselves of its conditions, as the essays themselves advise.

Limits of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the desk accepts no liability for a loss arising from the use of the reference. Since the reference offers no guidance and treats no particular circumstance, no such loss is expected; the clause is stated so that the boundary of the desk's responsibility is plain.

Changes to these terms

The terms may be revised as the reference grows. A revision takes effect when it is published on this page. A reader who continues to consult the reference after a revision is taken to accept the revised terms.

A governing note

The reference is published in the United States and is written with a United States reader in mind. These terms are to be read in that setting. Where a point is not settled here, the ordinary rules of the publishing jurisdiction hold.

Quotation and acknowledgement

A short quotation may be taken from any essay without asking, provided the sense is not altered and the source is named. A longer passage, a whole table, or a full essay requires the leave of the desk, which is asked for in writing. In every case the acknowledgement should name the reference and the cell from which the passage is drawn, so that a reader may find the context.

No warranty of fitness

The reference is offered for reading and for study. It is not offered for any particular task, and the desk makes no promise that it fits one. A reader who intends to rely on a result should satisfy themselves of the conditions the essays state, since those conditions are the ground of whatever the result supports.
